Businessman Gives Away Two Million Baht
A wealthy business man in Udon Thani spent Friday morning handing out envelopes of cash, totalling 2 Million Baht, to help those who live hand-to-mouth in the north eastern city of Udon Thani. Mr Preecha Chairat, who owns several businesses in the city, wanted to make merit on the occasion of Chinese New Year, but instead of handing his money to temples, Mr Chairat decided to hand out 10,000 envelopes containing 200 Baht cash each to the less fortunate in Udon Thani.
Mr Chairat said he has been doing this for over 30 years. He first started handing out the Ang Pao to his employees, and after that, he would give the red envelope to anyone who queued up because helping people makes him happy, Thai news site Sanook reported.
Thai-Chinese families commonly make merit on the day of the Chinese New Year to mark the start of a fresh new year. Mr Chairat owns Rerm Udom sugar factory, Preecha Market, Baan Chiang Hotel, and Intergame Sports Club, which are all located in Udon Thani.
