Extra Public Holiday For New Year Weekend
On Tuesday the cabinet approved an extra public holiday on the 3rd of January, making it a four day New Year weekend this year. Government deputy spokesperson Thaksada Sangkhachan said on Tuesday that the cabinet has approved Tuesday, the 3rd of January as an additional public holiday, in addition to the 2nd of January. This would mean the New Year holiday stretched from Saturday, 31st of December to Tuesday, 3rd of January in Thailand this year.
The cabinet also confirmed that the 5th of December remains a public holiday this year as it is the birthday of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The Royal Household Bureau would still hold important activities as usual, Col Thaksada said. She did not know if this practice would continue in future years.
