Abundance Of Wild Mushrooms In Local Markets
Wild mushrooms and bamboo shoots continue to be sold, in abundance, at the local markets in Chiang Mai and across Thailand due to the recent continuous rains, which make conditions ideal for them to grow. The sales of the much sort after wild mushrooms are reported to have increased daily income for local vendors to as much as thousand baht.
During the rainy season in Thailand, farmers collect wild products from the woods in the very early morning, starting from 1am, before selling them at the morning markets. This year it was reported on September 11th that local markets especially in Doi Saket and near Mae Kuang Dam are filled with wild mushrooms and bamboo shoots selling from 20 to 50 baht per plate.
Wild mushrooms can be cooked in various dishes but please take precautions when buying unfamiliar mushrooms as they could be poison.
