In wake of a large turnout of supporters for former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra at a court session on July 21, military personnel will be dispatched to different areas to meet with people to try to promote their understanding of the justice system.

Colonel Winthai Suvaree, spokesman of the National Council for Peace and Order, said over the weekend that the meeting with the people was ordered by the NCPO with an intention to make the people understand the justice system, particularly pertaining to the court case on rice pledging scheme involving Ms Shinawatra.

It was also reported that Pol Gen Srivara Rangseepromnakul, the national deputy police chief, would also meet with officials of the Supreme Court’s criminal division for holders of political posts to discuss security preparations for August 1 when Ms Yingluck is to give her closing statement on the rice pledging scheme case and on August 25 when the court is scheduled to hand down a verdict on the case.

Also in August, the court is due to announce its verdict on another related case regarding the government-to-government rice deal against former commerce minister Boonsong Teriyaphirom and his ex-deputy, Poom Saraphol.

It is expected that supporters of Ms Yingluck will show up in force for the two events.
