Pattaya Pub Ordered Shut During Re-opening Party
A pub was ordered shut again on Monday after it defied a closure order, celebrating its reopening with a party where illegal drugs were found by police.
District officials, police and soldiers raided the dimly lit Apollo Pub in Bang Lamung around 2am and ordered staff to turn on the lights. More than 100 partygoers were dancing to the loud music.
District chief Naris Neeramaiwong said they had a tip off that a party had been arranged at the pub, to celebrate its re-opening for business despite being served an order to close for five years for operating illegally. It was unclear when the order took effect.
Authorities conducted urine tests on people present and found 22 were positive to drugs. Six small bags of ketamine and 20 ecstasy pills were also found scattered on the floor.
DJ Piyawat Lertjitcharas and two cashiers, Supranee Larbudom and Natthanan Kangwansit, were arrested and taken to Muang Pattaya police station. They were charged with illegally operating the pub, selling alcohol without a permit, defying the closure order and having drugs in the place.
