56 Rounded Up For Road Racing In Chon Buri
Troops and Interior Ministry officials rounded up 56 motorcycle road racers in Chon Buri, near Pattaya, early Thursday after learning that they used Facebook pages to arrange races.
About 100 troops and officials of Bang Lamung district were dispatched to the flyover of the Sattahib-Nakhon Ratchasima road in Tambon Khao Maikaew at 2.30am. Authorities found about 300 motorcycles racing on the outbound road. The crowd scattered when they saw authorities coming and most managed to escape arrest.
Authorities seized 53 motorcycles and arrested 56 racers, ranging in age from 14 to 28. They were taken to Huay Yai police station to wait for their parents to pick them up and pay fines.
Bang Lamung district chief Narit Niramaiwong said he received complaints that teenagers often raced on the road so he had officials check Facebook pages and found that they planned to race again late on Wednesday night.
