Following an order by Phuket Governor Norraphat Plodthong, a ‘task force’ of around 100 police and soldiers raided 16 massage venues in and around the Poonpol Night Plaza last night. The raids were led by Captain Bhavorn Promkeawngam.

The purpose of the operation was to suppress illicit behaviour, including possession of drugs, working without a permit and human trafficking.

Police say the raids uncovered five illegal female migrant workers including 1 Lao, 2 Non-Thai Hill Tribe girls from Northern Thailand at the Violin Massage parlour, a Cambodian woman at the Angel Massage Parlour and another Non-Thai Hill Tribe woman at the Euro Massage Parlour.

All were taken to a police station for questioning. ‘The personnel in every shop were urine-tested for drugs, with none found. Everyone was clean and no prostitution was found either,’ Capt Bhavorn stated in an interview with the local press after the raids had been completed.
