The public can ride for free ride on the new BTS Green Line between Bearing and Samrong Stations for a month, after Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over the commercial launch of the one kilometer long extension yesterday.

The new Samrong station is one of nine stations under the BTS Green Line's 13km Baring to Samut Prakan extension. The remaining eight stations are expected to be in operation next year.

The other stations include Phuchao Samingprai, Erawan Museum, Royal Thai Naval Academy, Samut Prakan, Sri Nakarin, Praeksa, Sai Luad and Samut Prakan Housing State.

The information obtained during the free trial will be used by the Bangkok Administrative Organisation to determine the appropriate fares. Up to 50,000 commuters are expected to pass through the new section per day, rising to 100,000 a day once all nine stations are operational.
