Celebrity husband Akarakit Worarojcharoendet, alias Benz Racing, reported to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) on Monday morning and was charged with the laundering of drugs money and conspiracy.

Accompanied by a lawyer, Mr Akarakit showed up at the NSB headquarters at 9.30am to acknowledge the charges. He declined to give more information than he had already given during two previous interrogation sessions, and said he would testify in court.

Mr Akarakit  was taken to the Criminal Court, where the police obtained permission to detain him for further questioning. He was later released on 500,000 baht conditional bail by the court. He is prohibited from travelling abroad without prior permission and must report to the court again on April 24.

Mr Akarakit thanked the court for its mercy.  He also thanked the police for not issuing a warrant for his arrest, allowing him to acknowledge the charges personally.

He said had given the NSB full cooperation and would be ready to give additional information to the police at any time.

On Friday, NSB police called a meeting to wrap up the investigation into Mr Akarakit, who is accused of buying a Lamborghini worth about 20 million baht with money from the drug network of Lao national Xaysana Keopimpha, 42.

NSB police early last month seized the Lamborghini on suspicion it had been purchased with drug money, along with two large motorcycles, when they raided Mr Akarakit’s Area 51 auto accessories shop and an apartment he owns in Inthamara Soi 51 in Din Daeng district.

Mr Akarakit's alleged links with the network of the drug kingpin emerged after two Thai suspects identified as Natthaphol Nakkham, alias Boy, and Aranya Singpha-ngat were arrested on Feb 1 with more than 200 million baht in assets, including cars, big bikes, gold, cash and drugs.

Mr Natthaphol later alleged to narcotics police that Mr Akarakit, the husband of TV actress Napapa “Patt&” Tantrakul, is a member of the Xaysana drug network.
