Bangkok Nightlife Venues Re-Opening
A spokesman for the Ministry of Interior has announced that businesses in the entertainment sector could reopen from Monday, 17 Oct to prevent hardship to those working in the industry. The news comes after concerns were raised by business owners and employees that if they were to follow the initial guidelines that would have seen some bars, clubs and discos closed for 30 days, they would face serious financial problems. Hundreds of thousands of people are employed across Thailand in nightlife related businesses and their closure also comes with knock on effects for those who make a living on the fringes of bars and clubs such as taxi drivers and food vendors who are dependent on entertainment venues for their livelihoods.
Some venues will re-open with certain restrictions in place such as low volume music and no neon lights outside. This will vary widely from business to business and area to area and so it's impossible to report on the specifics for each area and every venue. Anyone planning to go out should check ahead to be sure venues are open. The best source of information likely to be official Facebook pages or the venue's official website. If you are planning to visit a venue listed in our nightlife directory you could also give then you could also try giving them a ring at the number listed on their venue page here on RedEyethai.
